The Family heads to Gatlinburg!

Well, the fabulous 2008 version of the Meyer-Schuler-Yates Family Reunion has come to a close, and I think I can say without reservation that everyone had a great time. There were some notable absences (does Guy really exist?) but, on the whole, every branch of the family was well represented.

Take a look:

Despite appearances, Jim really did have a great time, and loved meeting everyone.

The Curley Cabin

We set up shop in a lovely little six-bedroom called "Angel Haven." You've seen the pool table; here's the deck and the view:

Hillbilly Golf

One day we decided to head into Gatlinburg to soak up some of the local color. Yep, that's right: Hillbilly Golf.

The Hike

Another day, we took a hike into the Great Smoky Mountains. Jim had already left, and while Brian, Julianne, and Luthien slept, Tom, Fran, Katie, Bethany and I climbed up to a picturesque (and child-infested) waterfall. Check it out:

Final Night Party

All good things must come to an end, and the reunion was no exception. We hosted two sing-alongs during our stay, and although I didn't get pictures of those, I know that Bob took some good video, so we all look forward to getting our DVDs. Right, Bob?

It was a great pleasure to have Ronnie join us on the guitar. Next time, I trust he's bringing charts of some of his own songs. Deb will bring her bass, and we'll have almost a full band! We're just lacking a drummer, and all applicants are welcome. Madison? Care to add to your list of accomplishments?

I have to say, I am always impressed when I hear this group sing together. Here are some shots of the participants:

You'll notice it's almost impossible to get a picture of Anne with her eyes open....

We came, saw, and conquered, and left a little bit of Gatlinburg intact for future visitors. My one disappointment? Not getting to go to Dollywood and meet Miss Dolly Parton in person. Jim and I got to see her concert in Minneapolis in May. I'm a huge fan, and for those of you who haven't heard her latest album, "Backwoods Barbie," I recommend it! (End of shameless plug.)

We're all anxiously looking forward to the next reunion. Kerry, I promise I will help you organize it! (Although my suggestion of Las Vegas as a meeting point was not met with great enthusiasm.)

Meet you all at Hillbilly Golf!
